HOME DÉCOR

Coat hooks, lights, wine racks and more.
There's something magical about an art piece that changes the function of a home. The very act of living becomes a part of the art.

FERROLUMINESCENCE II: GARDEN LAMPS

May 2023

“Ferroluminescence” is a garden lamp and jellyfish light sculpture, meant to highlight the lines I like to cross in my art. It’s not only a statement on the potential functionality of fine art, but also the strange power of metal to be at once liquid and rigid.

My lamps are compatible with any indoor/outdoor 120 V outlet and standard lightbulb. The light is Directed inside of a polished copper dome, producing an organic silhouette in a warm copper glow.

This garden lamp is one in a pair.

"FERROLUMINECIENCE"

November 2022

One day I looked at my body of work and thought "Hey, I'm becoming the sealife Guy!" Maybe that was inevitable; the flowing shapes of ocean life contrast well with the rigid state of steel, and I'm nothing if not a contrarian.
So here's me doubling down. I turn one of my eclipse lamps horizontal, and suddenly I see a whole family of future sculptures. Consider this guy part One of many.

"SQUIGGLY SQUIRE"

FREESTANDING WINE RACK

May 202

My largest octopus sculpture to date, and a little piece of my neighborhood. The wood in this plinth was reclaimed from the Toronto beaches boardwalk, and has been easily walked on millions of times. My squiggly squire holds up to eight bottles securely. The polished flat surface on top of his head can have names, dates, and other information stamped in at buyers request.

"SQUIGGLY BOI" OCTOPUS HOOKS

June 2020

The Squiggly Bois are my favorite pieces to forge in sets, because even in a batch of 100, every one somehow stands out as unique, each with their own personality...

Other than being adorable sculptures, every one of my octopus have two of their tentacles twisted into a 1/4" ring, for mounting to a wall as a coat hook. I feel strongly that my art should all be functional in some way, and it amuses me that all my guys try to be helpful.

"BLACK HOLE SUN"

ECLIPSE LAMP SERIES

Summer 2022-Present

What started as a reference to J C Roy (a painter who burned his retinas staring at the sun, then began painting it as black) has quickly grown into its own category of my art. My "Eclipse Lamps" play with reflective surfaces and the creation of silhouettes by placing a light inside a mirror-polished brass or copper dome, with a heatwave-burst of steel lines around it. The light reflects backwards off the polished surface, bounces off the wall the lamp is against, and Fills the room with warm light. The dome becomes a circular silhouette, framed by flowing lines.

SQUIGGLY SQUAD SNAKE CANDELABRA

November 2019-Present

A delightfully spooky piece of home décor, and a soft sequel to my OG "Squiggly boy" wine rack.
I've made several of these over the years, but never possesses more than one at a time.

MIGHTY FIREWOOD HOLDER

Winter 2022-Present

I've often said the "Canadian dream" isn't a house with a white picket fence, but a cottage by a lake, with a wood burning stove or a bonfire to howl by.

My log holders are meant to be a part of that dream. A bold and present accent for the greatest part of your property.

SCULPTURAL LOG HOLDER (SMALL)

May 2023

A more space conscious take on my epic sculptural log holders, each being roughly 18" wide and 20" tall.

A style reminiscent of smoke or flame.

"THE OG" SQUIGGLY BOI WINE RACK

October 2019

The "Squiggly Boi"  began as a challenge from one of my teachers to produce a piece suitable for sale at the Toronto One Of a Kind show, but quickly took on a life of it's own.

This functional octopus sculpture securely holds up to four wine bottles. More than just pure aesthetics, the upside-down positioning of the bottles helps to prevent the oxidation of corked wine, by keeping the cork constantly wet.

BLOOMING ROSE CANDLE HOLDERS

2015-present

Pretty as they are I've never liked to have flowers in my home, so I've been making iron roses for years to replace them.  They're beautiful, rot-proofed, can't be watered, and even I can't neglect them to death.

Also they're capable of holding a candle up to 7/8" diameter

Obviously they're superior to real flowers in every way.

OCTOPUS TENTACLE DOOR HOOKS

2023

These fun over-the-door hooks are designed for doors 1.5" thick or less. I recommend only using these hooks on a door with a 1/8" or larger clearance between the top of the door and the frame, or else it won't close anymore.

ACTION BOOKENDS

2013-present

I've been making variants of these bookends for years, Seeking to bring the excitement found in a good book onto a client's shelves.

LED LIGHT POLES

2021-Present

My six foot tall Plasma Lamps (named for the tool I use to cut in the designs) contain a 10-16' RGB LED strip wrapped around a central strut, while the lampshade sits on that strut with a simple centering pin. Each lamp comes with a controller that can be used to select a wide variety of colours, adjust brightness, and set the light to strobe or fade between colours.

ARTIFACTS AUGMENTED

July 2019

One of my favorit early projects. An antiques dealer requested display hardware for an ancient Chinese terracotta tablet, and the face from an Egyptian sarcophagus. It was humbling to hold so much history in my hands, and to help carry it forward.

FORGING STARLIGHT

October 2018

A collaboration with Mac Osborne Metalworks, and the largest lamp I've ever seen.  Unfortunately it was never completed, but even the unfinished sculpture was a sight to behold.
